Our History
A brief history of Encentiv Energy. Here’s where it all started.
2009
Pennsylvania passed legislation directing utilities to offer rebate programs. Helping utilities manage those rebate programs became a growing need, and we became a program implementer for utilities in the state.
While conducting audits, processing rebates, and other related work, our company grew quite quickly – so much so that we had to move to a bigger office!
2010 – 2013
Customers operating in multiple states received more rebates working with us in Pennsylvania than anywhere else, and they needed this service across the country. We evolved from a company with a regional focus to one working on projects nationally.
We saw how programs across the country operated and started developing the Encentivizer Database.
2014
Rebate processing was time-consuming, both on the utility and the industry side. To help solve this problem we built software to automate the processing of rebate applications for lighting agents and distributors.
2015
The big year!
Encentiv Energy shifted from a service business to a technology company. Our roots in the rebate industry taught us how the industry could be improved. With the LED revolution well underway, we started a technology solution for utility rebate estimates and processing. Utility rebates helped to drive the increasing adoption of LED lighting.
Rebate work set the foundation for the creation of Encentivizer.
2016
Encentiv Energy developed the Encentivizer technology, which is powered by a database of qualified products, utility programs, and incentive calculations across North America. We received Series A investment, led by Birchmere Ventures.
2017 – 2018
We launched multiple Encentivizer products and welcomed international customers!
Encentivizer Catalog Widget debuted at Lightfair International – the biggest trade show and conference in the lighting industry!
We rolled out the Encentivizer App for iOS and Android.
And reached our 100,000th user!! 🎉
2019
We watched from a technology and customer experience standpoint as the industry changes. Our work with Encentivizer has positioned us to help the world become more energy-efficient and provide more customers access to utility program funds.

Encentivizer Products & Services
Encentiv Energy has five core products – Encentivizer Catalog Widget, Encentivizer Payback Widget, Encentivizer Rebate Explorer, Encentivizer Product Awareness, and an API.
The main component that powers each product is our proprietary database. The Encentivizer Database consists of over 3,200 utilities in the United States and Canada that are analyzed and updated daily, with tens of thousands of unique incentive calculations, as well as every detail you need to know on hundreds of thousands of qualified products.

The Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance (KEEA) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(6) corporation dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy industries in Pennsylvania. In 2006, KEEA was founded in response to the pending expiration of utility rate caps in Pennsylvania and the state’s lack of energy efficiency policies.
The DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to achieve energy optimization by enabling interconnected solutions with a focus on quality for people and the environment. The DLC promotes high-quality, energy-efficient lighting products in collaboration with utilities and energy efficiency program members, manufacturers, lighting designers, and federal, state, and local entities. Through these partnerships, the DLC establishes product quality specifications, facilitates thought leadership, and provides information, education, tools and technical expertise.
